News and Discussion
In schools, Brunel can be linked to the curriculum in a number of ways. At Keystage 1, for example, he is of relevance to the study of significant individuals in British history. At Keystage 2, he can be part of learning about Victorian Britain. At Keystage 3 he would feature in the study of Britain from 1790 to 1900. However, Brunel 200 is not just about history. There are plenty of possibilities for cross-curricula and non-curriculum work in science, design and technology, mathematics, geography, ICT, art and design, English, drama and music, and for links with the proposed Brunel 200 arts projects and other activities.

Educational objectives for the year include:

Involving local communities of all ages, new communities and marginalized communities in an inclusive programme that promotes citizenship.

Providing resources that will be of value locally, regionally and nationally.

Making Bristol and the South West's historic legacy relevant to today.

Strengthening civic and regional identity and pride.

Raising awareness of the significance of the Brunel sites in Bristol and elsewhere.

Improving the connections between those sites through
collaborative initiatives, new partnerships, and capacity
building.

In addition to providing high quality resources there will be, among other activities, classroom visits from Brunel experts, artists and engineers in residence, hands-on science presentations, site visits, drama and dance workshops, and project-based work.

By 2006, you will be able to download PDFs and Word versions of some of the educational material produced for the teachers’ packs. Throughout the year, the site will feature education-related news stories and examples of work produced in schools, colleges, universities and sites of lifelong learning as part of Brunel 200. Additional information will also be found on the Events and Competitions and Resources and Links pages.

If you are a teacher in the Bristol area and would be interested in being added to the project mailing list, please complete the
questionnaire, available from the downloads on the right, and send it to Brunel 200.

This site will continue to grow during the build up to 2006 and the year itself. Check the home page for news of additions and updates.
